Discoloration in Quarry Tile, Mexican Tile, and Stone Finish
Discoloration in the finish for quarry tile, Mexican tile, and stone can be caused by: finish buildup, soap scum, oily gray grout, urethane, epoxy, or phenolic varnish, iodine present in the grout, or rust stains present.
Cause: Build up of finish on the floor. Solution: Using Unitex Melt Down Stripper and standard floor machine with a Nylo-Grit Brush, strip floor. Apply a new layer of finish.
Cause: Soap scum is present on the floor. Solution: Using Unitex Melt Down Stripper and standard floor machine with a Nylo-Grit Brush, strip floor. Apply a new layer of finish to floor.
Cause: Grout is oily and gray. Solution: Using Unitex Melt Down Stripper and standard floor machine with a Nylo-Grit Brush, strip floor. Apply a new layer of finish to floor.
Cause: Floor has urethane, epoxy, or phenolic varnish. Solution: Use a paint varnish remover. Remember, if the grout is of a Portland composition, use solvent-based only varnish remover. Clean floor using a mop and Matrix Grout Devil. Flood rinse the floor twice to be sure to remove all alkalinity. Apply Unitex Reflection to floor.
Cause: Iodine is present in the grout. Solution: Using a floor machine and a Nylo-Grit Brush, scrub floor with a 3% ammonia solution. Rinse with water and then scrub with Matrix Grout Devil. Rinse floor with water to neutralize.
Cause: Rust Stains are present on floor. Solution: Add 1 pound of oxalic acid to Unitex Daily Clean. Put on stain and allow it to sit for 10 minutes. Remove and then scrub floor with Unitex Daily Clean.
