Cleaning and Protecting Natural Stone

Natural stone is a porous material and requires specialized cleaning formulas. Neutral cleaners that work great on vinyl, wood, or other hard surfaces can react negatively with natural stone and etch the surface (cause microscopic scratches that dull the shine).

The following instructions explain how to clean natural stone surfaces, including marble, granite, limestone, travertine, slate, sandstone, and terrazzo. The cleaner being used cleans common messes and has a built-in sealer that reinforces protection and makes surfaces easier to clean in the future. Be sure to read the label carefully prior to use.

Directions:

1. Wipe or vacuum surface to be cleaned, ensuring it is free of loose debris.
2. Keep children, pets, and building occupants away from the area being cleaned.
3. Dilute concentrated cleaner with warm water according to label instructions depending on level of soiling. 
4. Apply the diluted solution to the surface using a mop, towel, sponge, or sprayer. 
5. Rub the surface lightly and remove any excess cleaner with a clean, dry cloth. There is no need to rinse the surface.
6. Repeat if necessary for heavily soiled areas.
7. Let the area dry completely before using to prevent soiling or accidents.
