Usage
Instructions for Moderate to Heavy Surface Treatment
When large, heavy furniture prevents carpet from being pulled back to expose the padding underneath, Matrix Miracle can help you clean an area quickly and conveniently.
Precautions:
- This procedure is only for use on areas that have concrete sub-floors.
- This procedure is not for use on wool or other natural fibers.
Supplies and Equipment Needed:
- Matrix Miracle
- Portable extractor
- 5-gallon bucket
- Water Claw
- Air mover
Step 1: Dilute 8 ounces (4 scoops) of Matrix Miracle per gallon of hottest water possible.
Step 2: Saturate the area by pouring the Miracle solution directly on the stained area. Remember the stain below is typically twice the size as the stain on the surface, so thorough saturation is essential.
Step 3: Agitate the area using a groomer or wand (with no solution or vacuum) to ensure penetration.
Step 4: Allow 30 minutes dwell time.
Note: To use your time wisely, we recommend performing this procedure before any other task on a cleaning job (e.g. applying pre-spray, running hoses, removing spots, making repairs, etc.) By the time those other tasks have been completed, the Miracle solution will have had enough dwell time.
Step 5: Thoroughly extract the area (no rinsing) using a sub surface/flood extraction tool, such as the Water Claw FlashXtractor II.
Step 6: Dry the area thoroughly using an air mover, such as the Typhoon or DriPod.
Instructions for Heavy to Extreme Contamination
Supplies and Equipment Needed:
- Matrix Miracle
- Portable extractor
- 5-gallon bucket
- Replacement padding
- Pad tape
- Utility knife
- 6 mL plastic sheeting
- Masking tape
Step 1: In the event of severe contamination, it is essential that the padding beneath the carpet be replaced. Begin by pulling back the carpet to expose the contaminated pad.
Note: Be sure to follow IICRC guidelines for carpet and pad reinstallation.
Technician tip: Gently place the new pad over the old pad and cut through both pads at the same time. This will ensure the replacement pad is the exact size needed. Don’t worry, a few moments of contact won’t contaminate the new pad.
Step 2: Seal the sub-floor (if contaminated).
- Use Matrix Urine Preconditioner first to reduce the odor.
- Use Unitex Rescue to prepare the concrete for sealing. Scrub it into the surface and allow 20-30 minutes of dwell time.
- Rinse thoroughly and allow the floor to dry completely.
- Use epoxy paint, xylene seal, or polyurethane seal for encapsulating the problem areas.
These products create a vapor barrier that odor will not penetrate. One to four ounces of Unsmoke Space Spray should be added to the seal. Stay away from water-based seals because they allow odor vapors to be released into the air.
Step 3: Create a temporary “bath” for the contaminated carpet using 6 millimeter plastic sheeting and masking tape. Be sure to overlap the uncontaminated pad by at least 6 inches to keep it from getting wet.
Step 4: Lay the carpet back over the plastic and prepare the Miracle solution.
Step 5: Apply the Miracle solution to the affected area. Average coverage for Miracle in this situation (no pad under the carpet) is 5 square feet per gallon of ready-to-use solution.
Step 6: Use your wand like a squeegee (no vacuum or solution) to move the Miracle solution around and ensure proper coverage. Allow the solution to dwell for 30 minutes.
Step 7: Extract the front and back of the carpet using your wand (no solution).
Step 8: Insert the new pad over the plastic sheeting and secure it in place with pad tape. Reinstall the carpet. Remember that the carpet backing is much weaker while it is wet and may be damaged easily during the reinstallation process.
Note: Be sure to follow IICRC guidelines for carpet and pad reinstallation.
Post-treatment Instructions
- The carpet may feel a bit stiff after it dries. A thorough dry vacuuming will remove the stiffness.
- If the carpet appears to be lighter where it was treated with Miracle, it indicates that not enough solution was removed from the fibers and residue is present. A light rinse with either clear water or an acid rinse will correct this problem.
